We started out the week in January with temps in the 70's. We knew it was going to be VERY cold by Tuesday...and there was a chance of ice / sleet. By Monday night we wondered if maybe we wouldn't have work or school on Tuesday. NOTHING could have prepared us for the layer of solid ice that we would wake up to the next morning, and the fact that it wouldn't go anywhere for 4 days! Now it's Friday, and a snow storm blew in to cover the ice with a lovely white blanket. So beautiful!The boys have had a blast staying home from school and getting to play, watch movies, sleep in different beds (they pick which room they want to sleep in every night), playing games, the Wii...kinda like Christmas break except without the stress / business of the holiday season! Donny has ventured out at least once a day on the roads, but we all went out as a family last night (Thursday) for a scenery change, to get some more groceries, and eat out at Jason's Deli. It was an...interesting experience on the icy roads. The good news is we got home safely without incident, but not without doing a couple of 180's, spinning our wheels a couple of times and weaving around a bit. Oh my.
On Tuesday, Monica and the kids came over and the boys ventured outside for a bit. At that point, the winds were blowing over 30 mph and it was BITTER bold. In the teens I think. They didn't last real long but had a great time. The snow was mostly some powder and mostly ice. I stayed inside! On Wednesday, Colby and Brady ventured out in the backyard and had a ball on the trampoline slipping and sliding around in the snow and ice. I ventured out only to snap some pictures and video - it was COLD.
This morning we all went out together for some snow time and had a blast trampling across a vacant lot across the street. We were having a good time, but it got REAL fun when a neighbor brought out an inner tube and the kids started sledding down a hill on the lot. By the time it was all done, we had 4 tubes going down the hill. Donny stood in the street to make sure no one went too far, and was the "car coming" alert watchdog! I'm thinking round #2 might be coming after some more rest....it was FUN!
