Today was the first day of school, and it was a good one! We have a tradition with the boys of going up to the school campus the night before they start and pray over them there. We get them to think about what things we can ask the Lord to bless, and what we can ask the Lord to help them do that year to make Him look good. It was a sweet time for us to think and pray about all that the Lord has planned for our little men this year in the lives of their friends, teachers, and in our lives as well. When we were leaving, Tyler said, "I sure love it when we pray together!". I loved it that they all prayed that they would show the fruits of the Spirit (that they have been learning more about this summer with their Dad) with their friends and teachers. I also loved it that the Lord used that time to refocus MY heart (and Donny's too, I think) - we had been having a frustrating afternoon for various reasons, and it sure reminds you of what's important in life when you spend time with the Father!
The boys both woke up READY to go! Tyler surprised me as I was getting breakfast ready - he came out of his room completely dressed with shoes on and everything! Colby popped his head up in his room when I went in to wake him up (this NEVER happens - he's a HARD kid to wake up usually!), and got ready in a flash. Both were so eager to get going and get there...they had gotten new shoes a few weeks back that they decided to keep in the box until today - so both were pumped to put on their new shoes and strut around!!
Everyone had a great day - even Brady who was left behind to just be with ol' Mom. Thankfully, Monica and her kiddos came over to add some entertainment to our morning, which was fun for all of us. When I picked the boys up and asked them what their favorite part of their day was, they both replied, "RECESS!" Colby did say he really enjoyed being with his teacher - I think he likes her a lot already. Tyler enjoyed making a new friend - they played Star Wars the Clone Wars together during recess (always makes any of my boys want to be your friend if you'll role play this with them!). Colby went to art, but said it wasn't much fun yet because all they did was learn about what they COULDN'T do. Tyler went to PE - same scene. Maybe their co-curr's will be more "fun" the next time they go!
I decided to be Betty Crocker and make some chocolate chip cookies before it was time to pick up the boys...you know, so they could have nice, warm cookies and milk for snack when they came home? Too bad I about finished with the recipe before I figured out that I was 1 cup of flour too short. Bummer. No fear - Brady got up from his nap and we trucked out to CVS to get some flour. No luck there. Sonic drink treats for the brothers was a good idea, though, so we got those then headed over to pick up the boys. We all tried the 7-11 by our house for flour - yep, none there either. What was I thinking? So to good ol' Walmart we went to buy our flour, then came home and finished up the lovely cookie dough (which everyone had a spoonful of, of course!) and made some mighty tasty cookies. All was right in the world, and there was no homework assigned by teachers the first day of school! yay! It's almost like summer (except we have to go to bed early and do it all over again tomorrow!) Brady had decided to be "helpful" and fix his own hair. Except he used his big brother's hair gel that only needs a little tiny smidge to do the trick on his thick hair. Brady didn't use a little tiny smidge, and he doesn't have thick hair. Let's just say that hair wasn't going ANYWHERE once he got finished with it!!
