Summer Spectacular...ELIJAH!

*If you actually read my blog on a regular basis (not that my posts are regular by any stretch of the imagination...) you might want to scroll yourself on down - I've been a busy girl tonight. And I even worked a very long day and exercised to boot. I know - it's one for the history books for sure!!

Last week was a GOOD week - with every night full of fun at our church's version of VBS - "Summer Spectacular!" This year's story centered around the life of Elijah. Each night Donny and I volunteered in a first grade class that was in charge of the snack for the evening...I know, hard job, eh? All 150 first graders from the FIRST SESSION were divided into 3 groups and rotated between class where they heard the story for the night, snack where the food related to the story, and craft where the activity reinforced the lesson once again. It was GREAT!!! Loved it. After class, all the families head to the auditorium for a Broadway musical style production that told the story. Every year I am blown away by the talent in my church - and this year took the cake for sure. How did so many "church of Christ" people learn to dance so good is what I want to know??? Amazing!! Wish I could have been up there with them, to be real honest!

I love my church and am so thankful for they way so many people come together not only to bless it's members, but also to bless the hundreds of community members who visited us for Summer Spectacular. May they come to the know the Lord more intimately and may Jesus reign as King and Savior over each of their hearts.

We have a tradition of teaching a class with the Yowell gang....I think we've been working with them for Summer Spectacular for 5 years. Wow- that's a long time!!

Ms. Patty - our AMAZING Children's Minister is the director and "founder" of the musical and creator of Summer Spectacular. Her imagination knows NO LIMITS!!!
Our little Vaughn clan in our snack room!
First Session was Sunday through Tuesday, then second session was Wednesday through Friday. First session had almost 50 kids in each group - 3 groups per night in all. That's a LOT of first graders!!!
Dave is our Youth Ministry Coordinator and portrayed a prophet of Baal in the show (NOT a good guy, but a VERY funny, talented guy for sure!! he!)
Elijah - Kent Rhodes could sing like I've never heard a man sing before - AWESOME!!
Cute little Brady and Annie waiting for autographs after the show
My sweet buddy Tami drove with her family all the way from McKinney to come to SS. I recruited her to help in our snack room second session - once a volunteer in the church, always a volunteer!! he!
Everyone REALLY loved King Ahab even though his character was not the greatest!! Evil Queen Jezebel was with him as well - all 3 boys went to visit them almost every night.

Love the story of Elijah - God's truth applies to my life today and His Word BLOWS ME AWAY!!

Roommate Reunion....

While at college, Donny lived with some guys who are all still very good friends. We get together once a year (or every other year - depending on life!!) and ALWAYS enjoy being together, seeing and hearing what God has been up to in our lives, and watching our kiddos form friendships. We met in Dallas at Doug and Jill Hall's house the Friday night that school let out and also the night that Colby had a tournament game with baseball! Can we say cram it all in??? Donny went on with Tyler to Dallas while Brady, Colby and I went to the game then scooted over there as soon as it was over. The boys and I kept saying how funny it felt to be driving to someone's house at their normal bed time....kinda rebel-ish or something! hehe!! We all had such a sweet time visiting even if it wasn't near long enough. Next time it needs to be an overnight I'm thinking!!

Dennis and Julie, Donny and M, Doug and Jill (our excellent hosts!), Randy and Kelly and lonely Don without his beautiful sidekick Wyn

We were missing 1 kiddo and 1 wife - Wyn and Abbie had to stay back in Wichita Falls for an event they had going on there. We missed them!

My Baseball Stud.....

Colby is my little baseball lover. Actually, he loves all sports, but for now baseball is his very favorite. Wherever Colby is, whether it be upstairs in the gameroom, in his room, outside, walking down the hall...wherever - he usually has a ball of some sort in his hand and is tossing it around. Or playing a game against himself as the other team...or making baskets, or batting all by himself. He's just that kind of kiddo.

Back to the point of my blog post...baseball. He played for Fossil Creek Little League this spring and was a part of a really good little team. They took first place in the season and had a tournament at the end of the season that they took second in. It was a very close championship game, and the other little team did a fantastic underdog come back kind of thing and won. Colby wasn't all that sad that they didn't win - quite possibly because he saw the big ol' trophy they got for placing first in the season! ha! The tournament winners got gold medals and second place got silver ones. But the season champs - they got this BIG trophy that my little guy thought was AWESOME!!

The weekend of the tournament was VERY hot. We bought a nice little battery powered spray bottle fan that was a life saver on Saturday when we were there for hours...Brady pretty much drenched himself...we all were EXHAUSTED and sweaty and ick after all morning / early afternoon of being there!!
The Red Sox getting their medals at the awards ceremony
Colby is next in line to get his medal....so exciting....all those little guys were so cute!!

I think he studied this thing for a LONG time....

We loved Coach Mark and Coach Paul - they were a great team and very patient with the boys.

This is what the REST of your afternoon looks like after a long last week of school, a long night Friday night, and a long Saturday at a baseball tournament. I had to finally wake this guy up so I could make sure he would actually go back to sleep that night!! I love him so much...
